SHAME ON Meetup!!! Or... "What a Mess!"
We have run a playreaders group very successfully for 6 years, and now Meetup is ruining the site. I think its all about money.
They let us BRAND our sites with rich features, and a very responsive and flexible application. I talked a number of people into becoming organizers. But now the branding is gone gone gone... unless you pay them a lot more money.
So for small fish like we are (i.e., not a for-profit business), we won't be able to afford to regain those features we used to have. But now the door is open to all kinds of business promotions. If these features stay, they are going to kill the spirit of the original Meetup which was to bring people together. Selling product will be taking over, is my guess.
When Meetup partnered with Google some time ago they also imposed some changes that caused an uproar... just to bow to Google. There was so much backlash that eventually they restored the site. We need to get our old application back.
I'm not sure we can complain them to death this time. (I've sent many complaints over the last 6 weeks to Meetup. But now I know its about money, not making the site better.
Thats a joke) So lets all unite and complain them to death. And if there is an alternative, lets hear about it.
Reason of review: hijacking of our branded websites for more money to meetup.
Monetary Loss: $180.
Preferred solution: return our features!.
Meetup Pros: Old application was very superior in many ways.
Meetup Cons: Changing features on us without any recourse, Pretending that new features or site look were a benefit, Hypocrisy and lying of customer service.
